Description
This is a nearly new-seldom worn, 2004-Santa Cruz La Laguna REBOSO. It is in excellent wearable and or collectible condition.  Santa Cruz is one of the Municipios of Departmento, Solola', in Guatemala's Western Highlands. It is one of the towns on the North shore of Lake Atitlan. The town is one of the few remaining towns anywhere without access BY MOTOR VEHICLE. There is no diesel smell! The styles of the town are less well known than cities and towns more on the tourist track. The local language is Kakchiquel. This reboso is cotton/acrylic blend. Between the thin stripes the design is made in Jaspe.  That means the tread is tie dyed twice for each color, so that the drawings in this case, spots of color progressing along the length.  There are 12 lines of drawings. The drawings line up relatively well. It is fairly obvious in the photos. The dimensions are 80" length X 19" wide. There are nicely done braided tassels at one end.  The other end is selvedged. Photo 2. The files of spots of color change, are well lined up so the jaspe "reads" easily. This reboso has all the hallmarks of something made to demonstrate socioeconomic status. I know who made it. If you would like a photo please ask. This is a very nice reboso that is exactly correct for its time and place of origin. It is a "red" rebozo. Red has been the traditional color. Now "Red" examples are hard to find. I ask for them. The weaver makes me some. The thread that goes into this kind of hand made clothing costs more than my starting bid. It is an unimaginable bargain. I know quite a bit about this kind of clothing so feel free to ask questions.Mail free to USA addresses. International addresses will receive a $4 postage discount.
