Description
This is a worn, SAN ANTONIO PALOPO Huipil. It is in excellent wearable condition. It is made of Mish, a premium grade of Guatemalan  cotton thread.  The neck and arm decoration is made of embroidery thread and is new. It has been added recently. I This is comfort clothes. It is soft and snuggly for the cold period coming up. SIZE: looking at picture 1. It is 35" across the top, the shoulders; and 34" from shoulder to hem.  The neck opening is 7 inches across as seen in picture 2. The arm holes are done American size and are decorated. Specific conditions: the randas are a mish mash of resewings. Some done by hand and some done by zig zag machine. It was probably opened at the randa to facilitate feeding a child. It is all closed up now. The randas look worn. On the plus side, all the seams have randas. In picture 4. you see Edelia from whom  I bought this and many other Sn. Antonio products. I have been buying from Edelia for 15 years.Edelia brings me the real thing out of her family. She knows the quality I buy. She asks a fair price and I pay it without question.  This is a particular thing I ask her to find for me because it is such exquisite comfort wear and it is inexpensive when I buy all she can find. It will fit and feel good on a WIDE range of body types.Picture is more 3 detail.  It it is one of the "BLUE" huipils. There is machine made randa front and back and under the arms. The randa was opened for feeding a child at some point, and the openings were closed. However, the randa was not restored on one side.San Antonio Palopo is one of the towns on the East shore of Lake Atitlan, between Santa Caterina and San Lucas Toliman. The town is served by a road though it is at the end of the road and remains much as it was twenty years ago. The clothing styles change, though rather more slowly than places more accessible to tourism. It also explains why Panajachel is full of street vendors from San Antonio. As example of change, this identical product was being made in all red/orange/purple with a overall color that was very red.  That was in 1989. The styles of the town are less well known than cities and towns more on the tourist track. The Blue overall tone of this is current. This is a very nice huipil that is exactly correct for its time and place of origin in every detail. If you look at the neck detail on the huipil Edelia is wearing you are looking at something very similar. It is still the traditional way of doing it even though the color has changed to blue.  The thread that goes into this kind of hand made clothing costs almost more than my starting bid. It is an unimaginable bargain. I know quite a bit about this kind of clothing so feel free to ask questions.Mail! If you live in USA I'll mail it free. The starting price has an estimate figured in. If you are international, I'll discount your mail cost the amount to mail it to Denver. Wait for my invoice.
