Description
Military Kilt w/ Box Pleats, The Royal Regiment of Scotland For offer is a genuine un-issued Regimental Kilt of the newly formed Royal Regiment of Scotland in a generous size to accomodate the slightly more stout Highlander. Based upon The Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders Officer's Tartan 1a - a lighter shade and larger sett of The Black Watch/Gov't Tartan 1 - the kilt is made by Glenisla Kilts of Scotland from the high quality heavy weight tartan produced by The Borders weaving firm Robert Noble of Peebles, provider of tartan cloth for the Scottish regiments since 1850. Made of 100% 18oz Strome worsted wool, this kilt is brand new in its original plastic bag w/ MOD Order and Contract Numbers complete w/ basting stitches firmly in place across the pleats. The inside lining of the kilt is made of a heavy black cotton twill that will most certainly last for years, and the leather straps are thick and sturdy w/ no marks whatsoever as the kilt has not been taken out of its original plastic bag and worn/tried on. The kilt has a total of 27 military Box Pleats nearly 2" deep giving it a brilliant drape and envious swing only a military kilt has that is unmatched by lighter wools and those "machine-washable" synthetics (do they build up/get static cling??). Designed to the high standards and rigors of the British Army, this kilt will most assuredly last decades longer than those other kilts (and most likely the washing machine even - just don't put it in there!) with only a fraction of the care, and one that can be proudly passed to subsequent generations most certainly still looking as good as it does today.  Drape and swing aside, these kilts require far less maintenance and pressing of pleats than the lighter wools and synthetics that usually wrinkle and begin to lose their edge when worn even once, especially when hot/humid. Simply hang this kilt up after wearing and the pleats will remain quite sharp and wrinkle free for several months or longer, even when worn weekly. Made from a full 8+yds of military weight wool and weighing nearly 4lbs, it is without worry of a slightly stiff gust or breeze exposing unexpectedly a wee knee more than wanted, as can happen more readily with the light and medium weight wools and synthetics. This kilt will need a pretty hard blowing before it gets lifted!      Please note, this a high-waisted military kilt so when measuring waist size please measure around the thickest part of your torso, about 1" or so above the naval (See photo of A&SH RSM below as to how high military kilts are worn by some). For further reference, the model is wearing the exact same size kilt and stands 5' 9" tall and 36" waist with the kilt properly positioned about 1" above the navel and/or just under the lower rib cage. Your kilt length should be measured from the same point above your navel to just above the middle of your knee or the top of the knee cap. The label on the kilt provides the following size information and I have included the length down the middle front apron; Height - 176cm / 5'9" - 5'11" Waist - 92cm / 36-38" Breech - 108cm / 42.5" Length - 25" The Kilt can accomodate from approx 35"-38" with the adjustable leather straps at the waist, and up to a 39" by moving the buckles forward at least another 1-1/2", which would still allow the front apron to nearly reach the right-side pleats without much any gap showing. Additionally, both aprons edges have approx 2" folded over down each edge so a little could be added from here without taking away too much weight and/or altering the balance of the front apron sett. Alternatively, and to gain a little more material from the apron edges, a woolen panel/strip w/ fringe could even be added down the apron edge for both weight and finish. To have a similar kilt made by a well-known and established Scottish kilt maker would cost in excess of US$700-$800+! Here's a great opportunity to pick up an excellent, high quality and brand new/un-issued British Army Regimental Kilt for approx the cost of a brand new one of far less weight, and most assuredly nearly half the price of one the same weight - especially w/ Box Pleats as this usually adds another US$150-$200 to the cost of a kilt.   (Please Note: Free US/Discounted Int'l postage is only included in the Buy-it-Now option and will otherwise be included at end of auction.) Offer is for Kilt as described above ONLY and does NOT include any other items shown in the full size pictures that are for reference only. I am listing a number of genuine Scottish and British military items so please have a look around if this is of interest. Payment is required within 5 days after invoice is sent unless prior arrangement is agreed upon, ie check/MO.  I will post within 48hrs after payment is received and am happy to combine multiple items upon notice to get the best rate possible for postage. A FREE No2 Dress shirt and wool knit tie is included in the offering. Upon checkout please provide your sleeve and chest requirements and indicate your neck size preference from the following; 40cm/15.5", 41cm/16", or 43cm/17". There are no guarantees of size beyond the provided neck sizes, but they will fit most any average person of that neck size. I will try to ensure it meets one's indicated sleeve and chest requirements, and if not, I will contact prior to shipping and provide the closest sizes from which to choose from. Please ask if any questions at all, require more measurements, or want additional photos. Many thanks.
