Description
This suit was custom made for Rick Danko by Nudie's Rodeo Tailors of North Hollywood California, when he did a couple of benefit concerts with Bob Dylan in 1975 & 1976. The benefit was for Rubin "Hurricane" Carter, a boxer who was wrongly convicted of murder. I googled it and found this out:12/07/75   As part of the campaign to get Carter free, Rolling Thunder Revue                plays a show at the Correctional Institution For Women at Clinton,                NJ, where Carter is temporarily imprisoned. Dylan again visits                Carter, accompanied by the press.12/08/75   Last show of the 1975 Rolling Thunder Revue Tour is a four hour                 benefit concert for Carter at the Madison Square Garden in NYC.                 The show is labeled "Night Of The Hurricane".01/25/76   A second and last benefit concert, "Second Night Of The Hurricane"                 is held in Houston, TX.Now to describe the suit...it is in very good condition, no rips, holes or tears that I can detect. There are some scuff marks on one of the pant legs and a small stain on the back of the pants. These could probably be cleaned but we did not want to risk taking it to the cleaners. It is missing the bib that went with it. My aunt, Elizabeth Danko told me that they had it hanging on the wall in their Malibu home but it went missing. (Maybe someone out there has it?!) Unfortunately it was a major part of this suit and I contacted Nudie's but never did get it replaced. Since I doubt anybody will wear this suit, as you can tell by the pictures, it would display nicely, because the artwork on the shoulders is pretty incredible. I am not sure of the size of the jacket and I do not have the suit here with me, it is in storage at my mothers house. I am guessing it is a medium or large, Rick was pretty thin back then. Some of the rhinestones are missing on one of the belt loops (see photo), but I imagine they could be replaced.I put some pictures I found of Montie Montana in a similar suit. Unfortunately I do not have any pictures of Rick wearing this outfit, but there might be some out there?!? I will have Elizabeth write a letter of authenticity. Please feel free to ask questions, I will do my best to answer them. Thank you!
