Description
You are buying an antique baby gown, probably intended for a christening gown. I bought several christening gowns in England, and this might be one of them. That is why I said probably English in the listing title. I also have some from Canada, but I'm not exactly sure of the origin of this one. Measurements: 31 1/2" neck to hemline; 7" shoulders; 8 1/4" sleeve to band (lace adds 1/2"); 9" neck Description: Long sleeves with eyelet ruffle and feather stitching on the band. Plain 3" deep hem (machine stitched). Four back tucks and 3 buttons for closure. Bodice: open work (broiderie anglais) yolk with lace eyelet ruffle at the neck and larger ruffle frames the inset, stopping at the shoulders. There are two rows of feather stitching above and below the lace inset. Basic construction is machine-stitched. The feather stitching is by hand. Side seams are felled. Condition: Excellent for its age which is probably late 19th century, but I'm not sure of the exact dating. It could be early 20th. There is one"rust" stain on the back of the skirt 8" from the hemline. The lace on one sleeve is pulling away in one tiny 1/2" spot that can easily be caught up. I just noticed it when writing this listing or I would have repaired it. I will leave that to the new owner. The fabric is fine batiste which I think is cotton, but might be linen. The dress is not yellowed. It has been well-cared for and probably worn rarely. Thank you for shopping. Insurance is required for this dress. I have described it in detail as best I can. I refund only if items are not as described. Please visit my Ebay store, too.
