Childs White Dress w Rows of Pintucks& Van Dyking 1860 Start Price USD 75.00 Current Price USD 75.00 Time Left - Bid Count 0 Buy It Now Price - Reserve Price - Start Time Tuesday, November 04, 2008 End Time Wednesday, December 03, 2008 Location Boston, MA See more about 'Childs White Dress w Rows of Pintucks& Van Dyking 1860' Description Child's White Dress w Rows of Pintucks & Van Dyking 1860 This wonderful dress is a fine example of hand sewn pin tucks and van dyking.  What is interesting is that these were all hand sewn in separate sheets of cloth and then cut to size and machine stitched into the completed dress itself.  The dress is designed with 4 rows of pintucks and 2 rows of van dyking, one on either side of the pintucks.  This was added to the bottom of the dress all the way around.  The cuffs have the same design.  There is a panel in the front of the dress with 10 rows of van dyking and 4 rows of pintucks between.  There must be 3,000 points in this van dyking throughout the dress.  It is sort of a princess style dress where it comes in a bit at the waistline and flairs out to the hemline.  The back is different.  There is about 4 or 5" of this pintuck decoration.  The dress is gathered from the end of this decoration.  There are 4 buttons in the back for closure.  From looking at the style of the dress, I believe this was made some time around 1860. The condition is fairly good for the age, but like anything that old, there are problems.  There is a slight discoloration in the front at the top.  The fabric is light weight and there is a small hole on the sleeve near the shoulder.  One of the button holes in the back has broken through and will need to be mended.  Where the dress opens in the back, there is a tear near the opening.  There are a few other weak spots typical of an article of children's clothing of that age.  I think I have covered all the problems in the dress. The dress is 22" long.  Seam to seam shoulder width is 10 1/2".  The sleeves are 8" long.  There is no waistline.             Ask about our layaway plan for more expensive purchases.
