20s REPRO Hand Bead Green Emerald Flapper Gatsby Dress Start Price USD 209.99 Current Price USD 209.99 Time Left - Bid Count 0 Buy It Now Price - Reserve Price - Start Time Thursday, September 04, 2008 End Time Sunday, September 14, 2008 Location Oakland, California See more about '20s REPRO Hand Bead Green Emerald Flapper Gatsby Dress' Description 20s REPRO Hand Bead Green Emerald Flapper Gatsby Dress Up for bid is a GORGEOUS ladies’ 1920s style emerald green body hugging flapper dress, hand beaded by me using authentic period bead patterns.  The garment was built over a silk slip using over fifty (50) different kinds of imported glass beads.  It slips over the head, no zippers or other closures.  The slip has some stretch allowing garment to slip over the head.  This dress was over eight months in construction and is ONE OF A KIND.   Beads used were Antique Czech glass, emerald and jonquil bugle beads, and several varieties of blood lined and many many other specialy seed beads.   Unlike other reproductions, it is NOT made by machine but each bead was hand tied and knotted, using shorter thread lengths, which means that if you catch one and it pulls, less beads will come off.  There is NO chain stitching to pull causing all the beads to fall off.  All thread used was the highest tensile strength beading thread available.  This dress was designed and constructed in 1988.  Hemline is covered in a repeat of various art deco designs current to the period.  There are no noticeable missing beads, no "bald spots" and no stains.  DO NOT DRY CLEAN ~ this dress should only be cleaned by a professional cleaner who is familiar with the materials in the beading, in order to prevent the beads going "dead" (gray).   A vintage twenties dress, while gorgeous, will have aging fibres and the beads have often gone dull.  Though stunning, even the best of them is still approximately 80 years old making them difficult to wear with confidence.  This HAND MADE garment allows its wearer to have a unique gown which has all the appeal of a NEW garment, but with the flair and romance of the lost past.   Statement: This item is in excellent used condition.
